Valerie Catalan (b. 2002) is a Miami-based photographer whose work explores themes of memory, loss, and grief. She is currently an MFA candidate in Photography at the University of Miami. Catalan is the recipient of the 2025 Michele Edelson Photography Award, the 2026 Marion Jefferson Award, and a 2025 International Photo Awards Honorable Mention. In 2026, she attended the Chico Review, an event organized by the Charcoal Book Club.
Her work has been exhibited in the 2026 Lowe Art Museum Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, 2025 New Works MFA at Miami International Fine Arts, the 2025 Lowe Art Museum Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, 2024 New Works MFA at the University of Miami Gallery, the 2024 Incoming Graduate Student Exhibition at the University of Miami Gallery, and the 2024 group exhibition Blurred Identities at Pan American Art Projects. She received her Bachelor of Liberal Arts, with a minor in Art History, from Florida International University in 2023.
